The proposed design will improve Lambeth’s Air Quality , Air Pollution and Your Heath .

We are responding to the climate emergency, dealing with London's air quality crisis, trying to end injuries and deaths in London from road traffic collisions and tackling many other issues that come from the way streets are used at the moment. We are investing in the Loughborough area, to make it safer and healthier for local people and businesses by reducing traffic and making it easier to walk, cycle and use public transport. Below you will find the proposed design changes to be implemented on Loughborough Road.

What is a Healthy Route?

‘First and foremost, a healthy route has the right conditions to enable more people to walk and cycle. A healthy route links people with places they need to get to, such as schools, workplaces, amenities and shops. A healthy route is convenient, attractive, feels safe and is accessible to all.’ (Lambeth Transport Strategy, 2019)

Loughborough Road Healthy Route (Phase 1) Scheme Area

Phase 1 of the project covers Loughborough Road between Coldharbour Lane and the Fiveways Junction to the North. Have a look at where it is located on a map:

Loughborough Road Healthy Route (Phase 1) Design

The proposed changes on Loughborough Road include:

  • Continuous cycle lanes (1.7m wide) on each side of the road. Each lane will be protected with light segregation using traffic wands. The cycle lanes will be located between the kerbside and the bus lane
  • New bus stop islands
  • Upgraded crossings along Loughborough Road
  • New pedestrian and cycle crossings to be added at the Fiveways Junction
  • Cycle traffic lights to be added at Akerman Road and Loughborough Road at the Fiveways Junction
  • A slight reduction in car parking spaces

Please leave a comment. You will have until the 20th of March 2022

We welcome your feedback before moving on to the detailed design stages. We will also be out and about in the area. At the end of this engagement stage, we will review the feedback we have received and make any necessary changes to the design proposals. This may include additional improvements, where budget allows. Then, once approved by the Cabinet Member for Sustainable Transport, Environment and Clean Air, the scheme will be implemented.

In the future we will have further rounds to look at details and specific impacts while working with the community, namely on the development of placemaking opportunities along Loughborough Road.

With your help we will raise awareness on the major issues and improvements previously discuss. In parallel, we will develop further supporting services.
